We all know them word for word; love them, they have a special meaning in our lives, and they will never be forgotten. The song-My Hope Is Built On Thee, was written by Myrtle Jackson of Chicago. Myrtle started singing at the age of 11, she came from a family of musicians and singers. Her talents were naturally developed, and her ambition was to sing classical music. However, she felt something stronger deep down within her soul and the experience taught her to sing what she knew and what she felt. Myrtle became a member of First Church Of Deliverance in Chicago, and was a featured soloist on the radio broadcast.Through kindness and inspiration of "Preacher" Cobbs, she was inspired to write music. The coast to cost broadcast of First Church gave her a legion of fans. She became a prominent soloist in the Chicago area, and was also a member of the Roberta Martin Singers. In 1963 Myrtle released an album "Sings Songs Of Hope & Inspiration," which included My Hope Is Built. The choir-The Southern California Community Choir was founded and organized in 1969 by Rev. James Cleveland. Since their inception, the combination of James Cleveland and the S.C.C.C. has brought joy to many people the world over, and their albums have been among some of the biggest sellers in gospel. They won three coveted Grammy Awards with Rev. Cleveland, which in itself is a remarkable feat. They have graced the stages of some of the worlds greatest concert halls, appeared on television and in movies. This rendering is by the Southern California Community Choir from a 1990 album titled "Having Church," on lead LaVora Wilson.
