Today on Saturday 27th January at 06:42 local time, Lisa Roland and Lauren Champion (Nini) crossed the finish line in English Harbour, Antigua after 45 days, 1 hour & 27 minutes, setting a new World Record for the fastest Women’s pair team to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Beating the previous WR set in 2021 by Wild Waves of 45 days, 7 hours & 25 minutes. Only 5 hours and 58 minutes difference!!🏁 Lisa and Nini both work in the sailing industry and have more than 60,000nm at sea between them - now with 2675nm in an ocean rowing boat named ‘Invictus’ added to the stats! Their maritime experience definitely came to their rescue during challenging times on the ocean and when some might get anxious, the team absolutely loved it when the conditions were fast and wild! When asked about the biggest challenge on the crossing, it was not the waves high as houses, knock downs, equipment failures or the countless hours on the oars that bothered the team. Instead, Nini said, “The first week we were kind of acclimatising, but then the next two to three weeks we were at sea there was really light wind and when we were in those conditions, we were learning diligence of getting up for your watch. So very vividly I remember you would have your alarm go off and your mind wakes up. You feel your body come in to itself. You are aching everywhere and all of a sudden there is something deep within yourself saying - I gotta get up for my watch and keep going, so there is this driving force that keeps you going.
