Here is a question that a lot of learners struggle with: do you stop reading to look up the definition or just continue? This highlights the difference between: Intensive reading: when you read to learn new words and analyze the language. Extensive reading: where you don't stop and you read for pleasure. More on my reading for fluency method soon but first... HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT BOOK FOR YOU: 1. The genre: the category. Choose books that interest you. 2. The level of the book: if it's too difficult to understand, you won't enjoy it and it won't help you. Choose graded readers. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o7DTuOYn0o 3. Books you enjoy: if you don't enjoy the book, put it down. FINDING BOOKS (GREAT TIP!) Go to https://www.amazon.com and "look inside" a book that you may enjoy. Start reading it and get it if you think it's appropriate. Find books with audiobooks too. INTENSIVE vs EXTENSIVE READING: I recommend that you do both. Here is how: 1. Read extensively but highlight words (sentences that you don't understand) 2. Do this for each chapter or for a certain number of pages 3. Go back and look up anything you don't understand BONUS TIP: Take the sentences that you have highlighted and use Anki - https://apps.ankiweb.net/ - to create flashcards.
