This is a record high caused by a squeeze in the gas supply chain and a lack of wind to power turbines. More than 40 Members European Parliament signed a letter accusing Gazprom, Russia state-owned energy corporation, of being behind this crisis via deliberate market manipulation. Pipeline exports of natural gas from Russia via Gazprom to Europe have dropped roughly one-fifth in 2021 on pre-pandemic levels despite a sharp rebound in demand. Russia may be behind this crisis as it may be interested in boosting prices to such a level that Germany rushes through the approval of the politically controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline This has sent prices in Europe to the highest levels since 2008, increasing energy costs for homes and businesses. The biggest energy suppliers are asking the government for support to handle potentially millions of customers from failing. The meat, health and steel industry all face sever consenquences from the UK Energy Crisis.
