| Video Discription | Vamana is one of the 5 Panchkarmas. The purpose of Panchkarma is to eliminate the toxins from the body from the oral cavity, from the anus, sometimes on the bloodletting way, apply some leeches and the dooshit rakta is removed from the body. In basthi we give some enemas and all the doshas comeout. Vamana is induced emesis. So the vomiting is called as vamana. It is done for ‘kapha” oriented diseases. Vata, pitta, kapha are the 3 energies in Ayurveda. Because of our lifestyle, lots of toxins gets accumulated, that is called as “ama”. So even vamana is useful in ama oriented diseases. It is used in indigestion, psoriasis, skin diseases, asthma, respiratory diseases also vamana is useful. So how is vaman karma done? It is done in the vasanth rithu. It is called as vasanthic vamana. A physician should have a deep knowledge of vaman karma, but if there are side effects of vaman karma,he should know to take care of those effects. So vaman should be done judiciously, scientifically, with good knowledge. The patients should be selected those who are strong enough and who can withstand the vaman karma. The difference between vamana and virechana is in virechana you give the virechan dose. A day before vamana, abhishudhi ahar is given like dahi chawal. Completely the doshas are aggravated and the madanphal kashayam or ikshurasa, that is the sugar can juice if the patient is not diabetic. It is given for patients who are not diabetic. These are used for vaman karma. It is given for akhand paana, that is till you fill till the throat, so continuously the patient is given till he can’t take anything more and the patient has vomitus. The vomitus continues depending upon how many liters he has consumed. Once the vomitus is done, again the samsargajana, that is trying to give the food in normal quantities, only the liquid diet without the oil, them with the oil, then the khichdi, then the khichdi with the jeera tadka and then the normal diet. But immediately after vaman karma, there are some doshas in the oral cavity, patient has continuously vomited. To remove those doshas kavlam is given, which is decoctions made of different herbs, to keep it in the mouth and then to gargle. After kavlam, then dhumrapana, those are fumes which are taken from the mouth or from the nose. So this has to be done immediately after vaman karma.
