| Video Discription | HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA — Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse defended police officers involved in a Memorial Day incident over a mistaken case of "stolen valor." The mayor said he regretted that a U.S. Army veteran accused 75-year-old Robert Ford of impersonating a Marine by wearing a dress blue uniform to ArtsFest in Harrisburg. Papenfuse said the police acted "appropriately" when the cop asked Ford about his service. The Army veteran demanded that Detective John O'Connor check whether Ford was pretending to be a Marine for profit, which is against the law. The mayor said that even though Ford was wrongly accused, the officers acted appropriately and respectfully. Ford was looking around at the event when a uniformed cop and a man in civilian clothes came up to him. The cop asked for Ford's unit and his military occupation specialty. Ford answered and noted he specialized in machine guns, rockets and flamethrowers. "I have to investigate for 'stolen valor,'" the officer said. Ford went back to shopping, but 10 minutes later the cop came back and asked him where he went to boot camp. After a short exchange, Ford got fed up and told the cop to leave him alone while maybe dropping in an expletive. "You don't know where you went to boot camp," the officer said, according to Ford. "You aren't a Marine." The Army vet joined in, shouting "stolen valor! This man is a fake!"
