If you think your computer has a virus, wellβ¦ it probably has. There is an ever growing number of threats, so if you're not fully protected, a computer VIRUS is bound to sneak in. Not to worry, I'm here to show you how to remove a virus from Windows 10 or 11β¦

π Signs that your computer is infected
So what are the signs? The biggest ones are any new error messages, security alerts, or apps opening and closing. But, these are the big ones, other viruses might affect your PC in more subtle ways - slower performance, laptop battery life draining faster, or significantly increased data consumption. A virus can just hide somewhere and send your data to some random malicious actor⦠With that said - how do you save your Windows computer?

π‘ Use Antivirus!
The resource demand is low, it's easy to use, and has a great track record of finding malware - a quick solution to your virus problemβ¦ As an antivirus Windows 10 alternative, Norton offers similar security with even more features, but can be a bit complicated for beginnersβ¦
So we open up the TotalAV app, go to Malware Scan, and start a full System Scan - give it a few minutes to scan your whole system. Now, the time will vary depending on how many files and apps you have. Once the scan is complete, any suspected Malware is put into quarantine. From here, you can keep these files in quarantine or delete them entirely. I don't really advise keeping files unless these are personal files or something you actually know, there can be times when antiviruses mark files as false positives. The good thing about TotalAV is that based on antivirus research institutes tests, it usually doesn't make mistakes. So delete the files and restart your computer.

π Uninstall Programs and extensions
For this approach, go to settings and find the program uninstaller on Windows. Then, look through all the apps and try to find anything suspicious. Now, the problem with this is that most malware aren't just named "definitely a virus", they use some legit sounding names to trick less tech-savvy users. I suggest that you Google any app that is at least suspicious to see whether it's legit or a source for a virus. And delete it according to that information. Also, make sure that you don't have any suspicious browser extensions. On Chrome, type extensions and check your list. Delete anything you don't know, better safe than sorry.

π Windows Recovery or Safe mode
We can try to restore your computer to an earlier, hopefully virus-free, time. The issue is that it might not be set up on your Windows correctly. But there should be at least one point where you installed something, and Windows made a recovery point automatically. Go to settings, type in recovery, and go through the setup. This might take a while, but once it's finished, your PC should be cleaned. However, some apps or files that were added during that time frame might get deleted, so keep that in mind.
