By using 3m Command picture frame strips, you can remove the shelf without damaging the wall. The shelf attaches via the command velcro-like strips and can easily be detached for re-positioning. The strips can then be removed from the wall without leaving any holes. I use this method to put action figures and other small items. Heavy items are not recommended. I estimate it can probably hold up to 5lbs of stuff.
