| Video Discription | A simple intro to our Blind Shaker, which has become a staple of espresso puck prep both in competition and home barista setups since we introduced it back in 2015. As the original inventors of the device, we have been carefully updating and improving upon subtle aspects of the product over the years, always keeping our device in a class of its own. Here are some more tips as they relate to the video: Point 1 - Softly Softly Catchee Monkey Despite the reference in nomenclature, this isn't a cocktail, and extra G's created with wrist flicks won't help. Easy does it. The goal is to gently homogenize the grounds without unnecessary compacting. This is the first shake shown in the video (onscreen text "reduces static"). Point 2 - Washing Machine Technique After years of shaking, at WW we have slowly evolved what we call internally the "washing machine" technique. This involves tilting the shaker about 45º off-axis and while holding the cap against the body with one hand, rotating the body one half turn at a time while tossing the grounds inside upwards. The result is like the delicates cycle for your grounds, effectively homogenizing without compacting. This is the second shake in the video (onscreen text "homogenizes grounds"). Point 3 - Use body as dosing funnel to level grounds. After pulling the plug to drop grounds into portafilter, hold the body against the portafilter and shake gently side to side while peering in the top. Aim to get the grounds to settle flat, so that no further manipulation is needed before tamping. You can see this right before the shaker is removed from the portafilter in the video.
