| Video Discription | For this week’s episode, I wanted to cover all the reasons you'll see an elevated WBC count. When most clinicians think of elevated WBC count, they immediately think it's due to an infectious cause. But, there are other differentials to consider when seeing this abnormal result. I’ll get to that in a second, first I want to establish a few definitions... Leukocytosis refers to elevated WBC (leukocyte) count. But if you recall from your pathophysiology class, there are many different types of WBCs. Neutrophilia is the most common type of leukocytosis, but leukocytosis may also be due to increased monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and/or lymphocytes.
