December has been a monumental month for World Mobile, filled with groundbreaking achievements and exciting developments. Join us as we recap the latest updates, from the historic aerostat launch in Mozambique to network expansion across continents.
In Mozambique, World Mobile made history by launching Africa's first commercial telecoms aerostat. CEO Micky Watkins and Head of Aerial Platforms Gregory Gottlieb shared insights into this significant milestone, expressing gratitude to the community for their unwavering support. Exclusive footage of the aerostat inflation process was revealed during the live "Mozambique: BTS" event, and the very first phone call using the aerostat was captured on video.
Zanzibar and Pakistan saw impressive network growth, with 27 and 54 new AirNodes deployed respectively. This brought the total AirNodes across both countries to 1,230 by year-end. Expansion efforts focused on B2B and B2C coverage, load sharing, resilience, and preparations for the AirNode Sales Platform.
In the USA, World Mobile continued acquiring deployment site options, testing equipment, progressing partnerships, and setting up the supply chain for coverage development in Reno. The Reno office, led by Area Manager Christian Rees, is operational and preparing for the AirNode Sales Platform launch. AirNodes are gradually being installed on rooftops across the city.
World Mobile announced collaborations with Vodacom in Mozambique and LVLCS apparel, integrating aerostat and blockchain technology respectively. The Road to Mainnet saw a before-and-after comparison, a teaser from the CEO, the release of Deployment Diary 19, and a countdown of World Mobile's top 10 highlights from 2023. A teaser hinted at expansion to a third continent.
The WMT team attended the KuCoin Green Future Charity Dinner, reached 50,000 followers on X, launched a holiday cuisine challenge, celebrated 600 days of network uptime, and conducted buybacks totaling 561,120 WMT in December.
Media and events included an interview with VP Mike Nxele and GSMA's Richard Cockle, exclusive Mozambique: BTS event merchandise, recognition by Bitcoinist, and press coverage of the Vodacom collaboration.
