The holiday starts at sundown on Sunday and ends at nightfall on Monday. [Notes:VIDEO: praying in temple] Yom Kippur means Day of Atonement. It's traditionally a time when Jews repent for sins they've committed in the past year. They spend one full day fasting and praying. [Notes:VIDEO: wide shot of wall] Orthodox Jews gather and pray at the Western Wall of Temple Mount--it is sacred to Judaism. Some bind their arms and head with special leather straps--where chapters of the Torah written on parchment are kept. [Notes:VIDEO: passing chickens over head] They also perform an ancient custom where they pass live chickens over their heads while reciting a special prayer. Jews set up stations in their neighborhoods where people can stop by and take part in the tradition. The custom symbolizes their remorse--the sins of the person are passed along to the chicken.
