His area of interest encompasses International Politics & Security Studies, Strategic Studies, Nuclear and Missile Proliferation & Non-Proliferation Regime, Asymmetric Conflicts etc. He holds PhD and M. Phil in International Relations from Quaid-i- Azam University, Pakistan. As a scholar he has served as esteemed Guest Speaker/Visiting Lecturer at various prestigious academic institutions such as NATO School (Oberammergau, Germany), NATO Defense College (Rome, Italy) Center of Excellence: Defence against Terrorism (Turkey), National Security & War Courses of Pakistan’s National Defence University, Intelligence Bureau Academy, Command and Staff College (Quetta), Air War College (Karachi), and Foreign Service Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan. Dr Zafar has also earned many highly regarded scholastic awards and honours which includes Norwegian Scholarship (NORAD), Kodikara Award 2001-2002, and Austrian Government Scholarship.
