Gain firsthand insights about how the inspiration, concept, and process works for these creative individuals. This panel of Fahrenheit artists dive into the inspirations and processes that have shaped their artistic development and current projects. Exhibition co-curator Pam Aliaga guides the conversation. About the Artists: Luke Huling is a ceramic figure sculptor from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He currently resides in North Carolina and is an Associate Professor at Sandhills Community College. He received his BFA from Edinboro University and his MFA from Indiana University. He is a past resident at The LUX Center for the Arts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. He is a scholarship recipient from the National Society of Arts and Letters and the inaugural recipient of the Chris Boger Memorial Award. Susannah Israel is an American ceramic artist living in Oakland, California. Her sculptures reveal a gritty yet passionate view of humanity, drawn from city life. She was born in NYC where she received a scholarship to Pratt Art Institute to study ceramics with Byron Temple. She received her BA and MFA in Ceramics at San Francisco State University and taught Sculpture & Ceramics at Laney College, Oakland. Israel’s expressive work is widely exhibited, appearing in the collections of the Archie Bray Foundation, Auckland Memorial Museum, New Zealand, Mint Museum’s American Ceramics Collection, the Yingge Ceramics Museum, parks and libraries, and many others around the world. About the Exhibition: Fahrenheit 2024 presents 100 pieces selected by juror Kathy King from hundreds submitted in response to AMOCA’s open call. The selected pieces created by contemporary artists range from more traditional vase and vessel forms to large-scale wall installations. While all pieces are mainly ceramic, visitors to Fahrenheit 2024 will encounter additional materials including hair, insulated wire, audio components, wax candles, a zip tie, and found objects. In Fahrenheit 2024, viewers are invited to consider traditional and innovative practices in ceramics, witnessing the range of creativity, technique, and inspiration these contemporary ceramic artists draw upon.
