| Video Discription | Concert: Darrell Ang and SCO Date: 28 April 2023 Composed by Zhao Jiping, Orchestration by Jing Jianshu From the highlands of Shanbei, to the old residence of Beijing, and to Qiao’s Grand Courtyard, the piece describes the story of an illustrious Shanxi family that brims with the unique Shanxi flavour. The television drama series, Qiao’s Grand Courtyard, tells of the trials and tribulations experienced by an undaunted entrepreneur in the province. The theme song, Remoteness, tells the frustrations of “Our fate is bitter and brief, our days down the path is still long, it cannot accommodate for me to think in depth... ...” The chanting that follows is like a concerted slogan that evokes people’s yearning towards life and chasing of dreams. The piece is a result of the composer’s personal discovery quest into the depths of Shanxi Province.The First Movement: Overture, the Second Movement: Aspiration, the Third Movement: Love, the Fourth Movement: Trade and the Sixth Movement: Fading Affection will be performed tonight.
