| Video Discription | My years in IIT KGP had a big impact on my musical grooming: it helped me nurture my developing skills and exposed me to music that I had not heard before, thus widening my horizons way beyond what I’d ever expected. And a key catalyst in this development was the time I spent in ETMS (Eastern Tech Musical Society), first as a keyboardist in my second year, and then as governor. Although I did play the role of a governor in the Western music counterpart, it was arguably the songs we rendered as a part of ETMS that really developed my ability to play, as well as listen. We covered songs across decades through the various gigs we played over the years, ranging from R. D. Burman to A. R. Rahman, and while the joy of performing was reward in itself, it was not just that. ETMS was more than our performances in Netaji, it was about friendships that have stood the test of time; it was about indelible memories - good times that are embedded into our minds, and most of all - how KGP had become a home away from home for all of us. Shayak and I still play as a part of a US-based Bangla band - PanchForon, and while our association goes back to St. James’ School, it was in our years in KGP when we really got to collaborate. Kamlesh (aka KT) was and remains one of my favorite singers of all time, and I still remember the one time when he and I performed a Ghulam Ali ghazal with me rustily accompanying him on the tabla. This was a song that KT and Shayak performed as a part of ETMS after I’d graduated, and when we started talking about collaborating on something offline, this was the first song that came to mind.
