| Video Discription | In an ankle based on and off swelling in a geriatric patient first you have to know what is the reason for the pain and swelling which comes on and off. Commonest reason would be an injury or inflammatory or infectious conditions. In a geriatric patient, a single limb, most likely single ankle, unilateral side most likely, first you have to think about anything related to tuberculosis. That has to be evaluated. If it is trauma related trauma has to be evaluated by proper investigations. Generally, other causes like inflammatory arthritis are bilateral. So if it is unilateral you will have to think of other conditions also. Other common factor would be elevated levels of uric acid. Apart from this the rare conditions would be secondary osteoarthritis of the ankle joint. So if proper cause has been established it can be managed accordingly. [PJu8RhIf2-I] |
